Alyssa Taryn
singer/songwriter
Raised in the lakeside resort town Regina Beach, SK, Alyssa Taryn grew up with music in the air and on the lake. Her indie folk/pop sound with sweeping melodic lines and thoughtful lyrics showcase Alyssa’s powerhouse vocals and attention to emotional detail. Captivated by strong female vocalists, Alyssa’s influences include the likes of Joni Mitchell, Jenn Grant, Sarah Harmer, Dolly Parton, and Adele.
For the past decade, Alyssa has been a performer between two worlds: one as a classical soprano performing on the operatic stage; the other as a singer/songwriter belting it out in the underground pubs of Toronto. Her debut EP Home, self-released in 2015, touched on this divide, showcasing her versatility as a musician and strong capability as a cross genre vocalist. Holding both a Master of Music in Performance and Literature (Western University, 2019) and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance (University of Regina, 2010), Alyssa’s knowledge of lyric painting and composition is showcased in her song-writing.
Now residing in Regina, SK, Alyssa has been working on a collection of new songs which reflect her passion for storytelling and curiosity with how we cope with the world around us. Themes related to addiction, codependency and love run through her metaphorical and at times confessional lyrics.
Alyssa is also a voice teacher operating her studio, Authentically You Vocal Studio, which specializes in coaching children and young adults in finding and fostering their authentic voices through vocal empowerment and development of healthy vocal technique.
